Two Legs At A Time

Tights are often the most overlooked and under-appreciated piece of an outfit. Executed properly, they can turn an average ensemble into a creatively coordinated work of art. Plain black tights are the default choice for most people these days, and leopard print is about as original as American Eagle. However, in a fashion world full of blandness and people afraid to deviate from what's safe, these tights from the French company Les Queues de Sardines are a refreshing new option. The exciting designs and bold colours may be just the thing you need to complete your look. These high quality leggings are screen printed by hand and only available in limited quantities at a few exclusive stores, so don't get your hopes up on finding a pair. But you can still admire them and imagine yourself in a pair after the jump...

Kicks & Chicks: Underwear & Infrareds

I've always been a fan of the old Air Max III's, and this re-release is no exception. Set to arrive on July 24th, sneaker heads everywhere have been looking forward to this one. The folks over at Primitive have put together a nice little package to go along with the shoes, and to top it all off, they did a photoshoot/interview with beautiful Filipina model, Justene Jaro. Keep reading below for more pictures, the interview, and video...

[Primitive] What's your full name?
Justene Jaro: Justene Ashley Costelo Jaro.

Where were you born?
Justene: I was born in Tacloban, Philippines, on a small island called Leyte. I have yet to meet anyone from there who isn't related to me.

What ethnicity are you?
Justene: I'm Half Filipina, and my mom's Boricua, Mestisa!

How did you get into modeling?
Justene: My own personal vanity got me taking pics, but the import car world is what first embraced me with open arms.

Not only do you have a gorgeous face, but you also possess a frame that breaks necks. What kind of measurements are you working with?
Justene: 36C, sometimes 36D depending on my weight, -25-37

Drink of choice?
Justene: Baby, if it contains liquor, I'll sip it!

What's the best Halloween costume you ever had?
Justene: When I was 4 my mom dressed me as a devil, and as an adult I've turned into one.

Have you ever dated a skateboarder?
Justene: Yes! I don't kiss and tell though.

Do you cook well?
Justene: I can microwave a Lean Cuisine or Cup Of Noodles like no other.

Do you have any other special talents?
Justene: Is hoola hooping a special talent?

What keeps you in California?

Justene: The weather! Plus, there's so many things to keep me occupied.

If you could date any celebrity (past or present), who would it be and why?
Justene: Mariah Carey. I'd steal her from the loser she's with now!
One of the images from the shoot turned out so good, we may use it as a t-shirt graphic. How's that grab ya'?
Justene: Awww man, I'm so excited! Would it be lame for me to wear me?
What magazines or videos can we find you in?
Justene: Hmmmm, plenty... I plan to take over the world.

What's your favorite pair of heels?
Justene: Anything TALL. I'm 5'5, but when I wear tall shoes I feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be, in the air!

What's your favorite pair of sneakers?
Justene: Air Max 90's. Duhhhh! (laughs)

What's an average day Justene outfit?
Justene: Wife beater, jeans, or spandex... And my hair in a bun. I'm a lazy chick.

What's a "night out on the town" Justene outfit look like?
Justene: Hot, but I try not to be too scandolous looking. My style is getting a bit more "grown."

What's an ideal date night like?
Justene: Drinks and lots of laughing. I can sit around all day with someone.  As long as I'm giggling, I'm good!

Any last words?
Justene: Thank you ever so much for having me! To everyone else, be nice to animals!

When Classics Collide

One of the most dangerous things for an artist to do is to put their hands on a classic. Many times people have tried to remake, update, alter, or improve something considered to be a "classic", often with the same result: utter failure.
However, every once in a while, someone gets it right. With the right amount of respect for the original work combined with a splash of fresh creativity, the new version can become a classic itself. But this feat is hard to come by, making it even more impressive every time it happens.
Check out these successful remixes:
Dom Pérignon & Andy Warhol
This project by the makers Dom Pérignon was a risky move on both ends. For the first time in their nearly hundred year history, Dom Pérignon will be changing their signature bottle label. Paying tribute to the iconic pop artist Andy Warhol, this limited series is designed after his distinctive style and coloring. If you want one of these beautiful bottles, just make your way to one of the four exclusive outlets carrying them in Spain!

James Hance
A talented painter with a love for everything from Star Wars to the Muppets, James Hance has been creating some outstanding art. Mixing imagery from all over the history of pop culture, Hance displays a great ability to entertain, evoke emotion, and convey feelings... all through paint on a canvas. Take a look at some more of his work here and here.

Nixon Highball

Although watchmaker Nixon may not yet qualify as a "classic" brand, they are certainly headed in the right direction. Their high quality and smooth design have made them a favorite brand among extreme sport athletes, most notably Tony Hawk. The Highball is their take on the classic pocket-watch, incorporating modern design while keeping the old school feel. If you have a couple hundred bucks and don't know what to do with it, this wouldn't be a bad way to spend it. Check it out on their website.

Band of Outsiders fw 2010 lookbook

Band of Outsiders put out pictures of their new fw 2010 collection, and as always, I love them. I don't just love the clothes, though I love the actual pictures, they're just fantastic. BoO has recently used the same basic style for their photos, giving them a sun washed, almost lomographic quality to them, and thats exactly why I love them. The way they're shot always gives me a feeling of having been there, as if the pictures are meant to represent manufactured memories.

I really like the clothes as well. BoO knows how to put out these beautiful preppy pieces, that can either be done up, to dress smartly, or can just be worn as everyday, playfully preppy pieces. Here are the pictures if you havent seem them yet:

Maharishi ss 2011 Collection

I dont know if anyone got a chance to take a look at the Maharishi ss 2011 runway show, if you didn't though here it is:

Personally I think that this show is just disgusting, but in a good way. The combination of the lighted runway, the black reflective surfaces and the futuristic safari look of the upcoming collection made for a great watching experience. Oh and I can't forget about the music, which is fantastic as well. It makes its way through a few different styles, starting off with, what sounds like, a sort of ominous drumming, evolving into a mix of drums and synthesizers, going through a few more interesting stages, and finally ending how it began, with ominous, if faster paced, drumming. To be completely honest this show sort reminded me of Kanye's "VH1: Storytellers" performance, which is definitely a good thing because that performance was, most definitely, disgusting.

Pigalle SS 2011 Collection

PIGALLE MEN'S COLLECTION SHOW SS11 from Roucreation on Vimeo.

There are a few things I love about this show, the first being that the collection itself is fantastic. Other than the actual collection being great I love most aspects of how everything is presented in the show, specifically the music, the "runway". Both the music and the "runway" remind me of pictures I have seen, of Paris in the 1940's and 1950's, minus the Nazi paraphernalia of course. I think i like this even more after having seen "Les Vacances de M. Hulot" because, even though the film was set in a beach side area, the Pigalle show seems to portray the same time period, a time period which seems a bit more awesome than the present, stylistically speaking though, the 40's and '50s sucked quite a bit for black people.
