Music Monday: Classified

Classified has been active in the hip hop community for over 15 years, since he dropped his debut album Time's Up, Kid in 1995. Since then he has become one of the top independent rap artists in Canada, charting nationally multiple times, and winning multiple awards for his work.

But thirteen albums into a career, how can an artist avoid becoming boring? By doing something that nobody else in the industry is doing. And that is exactly what Classified is doing with his latest album, Self Explanatory. Throughout his career, he has been known for his impressive (and often award winning) music videos, and this project builds on those accomplishments. His interactive video experience, titled "Choose Your Own Adventure", has nothing to do with complex technology nor expensive graphics. On the contrary, it is visibly influenced by the old school 8-bit video games. He instead relies on the artistic value of his videos, his storytelling prowess, and light application of game theory to entertain the viewers. Along with that are a series of rewards for progress in the 'game', including signed copies of his handwritten lyrics, free copies of the album, and more.
