Songs of the Week (29 Aug - 04 Sep)

This was a week full of surprising ups and downs for the music world! Get ready for a wild ride...

Cee-Lo - Fuck You (Remix) feat. 50 Cent
Having recently emerged as the new King of Twitter, 50 Cent decided to try the whole rapping thing again add a verse to Cee-Lo's 'controversial' summer anthem. Even without the feature, the song went viral within hours, and is now approaching four million views. But as one half of the group Gnarls Barkley, Cee-Lo is certainly no stranger to hit records. Be on the lookout for his next album, The Lady Killer. Oh, and if you like parodies, this one is for you: Cee-Lo x The Shawshank Redemption.

Kanye West - Monster (Remix) feat. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj & Bon Iver
His last remix didn't go over too well with some people, but that didn't stop Ye from moving forward with his next piece. It's a star-studded lineup, but forget about Officer Ricky & Bon Iver, and you can even ignore Hov on this one. Kanye starts off the track with a strong verse ("Have you ever had sex with a pharaohhhhh? I put the pussy in a sarcophagus!"), but even he was outshined by the Ms. Nicki Minaj. In a recent interview with Angie Martinez, had this to say about Nicki:
"[she has] the most potential out of everyone to be the number two rapper of all time"
Well, she definitely didn't let him down on this one.

Dave Coresh - The Highs and The Lows
Don't let the poor video quality fool you: this track straight up is a banger, and the concept of the video isn't that bad either. With his hard hitting punchlines and a knack for picking great beats, he has some serious potential. I also had the opportunity to interview Dave Coresh a few months ago, and I was very impressed by the quick witted Chicago emcee. Since a successful drop of his Formal Introduction Mixtape, he has been locked away working on his next project, so much so that I was unable to reach him to say a few words for this post. But at the end of the day, it's Dave Coresh, remember the name.

Taylor Swift - Mine
You didn't think I would leave the country queen off the list, did you? Here's the first single off of her upcoming album Speak Now, following a Grammy-snatching run off her last album Fearless. She doesn't venture too far from her comfort zone, but if you enjoy the rest of her music, you'll like this one too.
